Again this year we are asking that persons bring an index card listing ingredients for the dishes they bring. Some people have food allergies or sensitivities or for other reasons have to be careful what they eat; providing such a card can prevent any amount of asking "Who made this? What's in it? I hate to bother you but I can't eat . . ." For some of us this is life and death, so please help out here.
Maps to the locations WILL be in the next newsletter. Please RSVP (That means "say if you are coming and for which courses") and indicate what are you bringing; Please RSVP to Lisa Gillstrom, 612-986-8511 anstice_demalkuth@yahoo.com
....But it still needs people to server on it. The Board elections are coming up on Saturday, February 2, 2008, so it's time now to start thinking about running if you're interested, and voting regardless. Some quick answers to questions you may have:
Who is eligible to vote? Just like the Staff elections--Anyone who is a paid member and is recognized by at least one member of the Staff and one member of the Board can vote. There will be absentee ballots, but they won't be anonymous – we need to verify you are a current member, so your name will have to be on it. Better still, attend the Quarterly members meeting and vote in person!
What am I voting for?The Board positions are for two years, and are staggered. In February 2008, we will vote for President, Treasurer, and Camp Representative. In February 2009, we will vote for a new Vice President, Secretary, Quartermaster, and Company Representative. Again, if you're interested, attend the Board meetings, talk to those currently in the positions, and review your manual. Just for the record, Mary will not be running for President in 2008 - She believes it is time for New Blood.
How do I find out more information? There are a few ways – the manual is one of them, the best way is to talk to a current or former Board person and find out what is involved. All your Board members are listed in the newsletter.
How do I get nominated? There are a few ways – have a friend of yours nominate you by sending information to Glenn McDavid, the Secretary, nominate yourself the same way, show up at the meeting and toss your ring into the hat, or don't show up have your friends nominate you… Just kidding – you have to agree to run to be voted in.
How much time is involved? There are monthly Board meetings of 1-2 hours duration, plus additional time for the specific responsibilities of each position!
What if I have a question you didn't answer? Call, email or write, or show up at the meeting and ask - that's the best way!
Glenn McDavid, Secretary
You can either bring your goods to Heidi at events, or entrust them to her beforehand. We ask that items be small and not terribly fragile if Heidi is to transport them.
Thank you for your support of Clann Tartan.

Clann Board and Members Meeting, Nov. 3, 2007 Board Members Present: Mary McKinley, Bruce Yoder, Glenn McDavid, Marty Byers, Diana Steben, Cate Hesser, Sean McCanna Staff Present: Mia McDavid, Julie Yoder, Laurie Ford, Betsy Bolton, Eric Ferguson Other members Present: Michael McCarty, Laura Swenson, Hellen Ferguson, Sarah Shaftman, Lisa Gillstrom McCanna, Anthea Cross, John Debnam The minutes of the October meeting were accepted as corrected. REPORTS ======= Vice-President: We had a good year. -- Treasurer: The year is looking better than expected. October was a good revenue month. In addition to Big Island and Mankato, we got paid for Winona 2006. There is also some Sutlery income. Right now revenue is about $750 ahead of expenses, but some of the latter have not yet been submitted. Also, $540 budgeted for company expenses has not yet been spent. Even so, we could be close to a break- even year. Food came in under budget. Right now we have about $1300 in checking and $6000 in savings. -- Secretary: We renewed our contract with DotServant (our ISP) through Sept. 30, 2008. We are currently mailing about 20 hardcopy newsletters every month. -- Quartermaster: We did an equipment inventory for the October camp drill. Some items went home with members for repairs--Sean needs a list. There was some discussion of maintenance for the wooden tables and chairs. Some of these need repairs, and all might need some kind of finish. Various options were proposed. We might do this in the Spring. Staff will look into this for the April camp drill. We also might want to put finish on the pike shafts. Two of these have no heads. Traces of rodents have been seen in the garage, but so far there has been no damage to our equipment. The broken musket is now at John O'Duggan's for repairs. We will trade our double bit axe for a splitting axe, which will be far more useful. One bandolier needs a priming flask. Some kind of Three-panel display would be very useful at events. -- Camp Rep: No problems have been reported. Company Rep: No problems have been reported. Music Guild: Meeting 4th Mondays at Yoders. Dance Guild: Wednesday dance is moving back to Lake Hiawatha. We have the room reserved through September 2008. Our contact there is Ryan. Fiber: Mia has been doing a lot with dyes. Laura Swenson's new arisaid will be waulked at Farmington. Historic Site: Some logs have been hewn. It would be nice to get a large group up there for some work weekend. Sword Guild: Moving back to Corcoran. Hopefully 2-3 times a month. Members only, but we do have student memberships. Garden Guild: There is increased interest in this activity. Some coordination with Staff about meal planning would be a natural development. -- Website update: The cookbook has been converted to HTML, but it is Microsoft's version of the language. John D. is trying to convert it to a more standard form. The website conversion itself is very complicated, but he is making progress. The Secretary is well aware of the difficulty of this work, and appreciates the progress John has made. UPCOMING EVENTS =============== First footing: Plans are underway. New and old staff will work together on this. Board Elections in February. President, Treasurer, and Camp Rep are up for election. Mary will not be running for another term as President. Bruce will run for another term as Treasurer. Pioneer Village in Wisconsin is interested in having us for a Scottish event. They have a camping area with showers. We need to find a workable date, but we are going to pursue this. The Baldwin (Wisconsin) School district wants us back, and they may be able to actually pay us something. We will try for a Friday this time, and possibly a two day event going into Saturday. Lisa Gillstrom McCanna will pursue this. OLD BUSINESS ============ We have reached a settlement with Don Chesney about the financial issues related to Clann's participation in the July Tactical. We will pay $80 for 2007. In future years we will pay $50 plus Don's membership fee. NEW BUSINESS ============ We need a new Contracts negotiator since Maeve is going to graduate school. After some discussion Lisa Gillstrom McCanna agreed to accept this position. We will hold a swap meet at the February General Meeting. Laurie Ford will send out an announcement. STAFF ELECTIONS =============== Maeve Kane was reelected as Captain for a one-year term, since that is all she can serve. Lisa Gillstrom McCanna was elected Head Camp Follower. The other staff elected were Heidi Viar, Tony Rogers, Laura Swenson, Laurie Ford, Julie Yoder, Eric Ferguson, Betsy Bolton, and John Debnam. AWARDS ====== Herb Lindorff, by action of the Board, was made Corporal of the Camp. The Chief of Staff gave the "The Ridgepole of the Camp" award to Ann Peters. The Vice President's award for being generally helpful was given to Jerry Swenson. The Head Campfollower gave the "Cast Iron Cookpot" award to Anthea Cross for 2007. It was awarded to Margaret Kirkpatrick last year. Next Board Meeting: December 18.

Event Schedule for the 2008 Season:
Hello all,
The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let Julie know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me regarding this matter
Thanks,
Lisa Gillstrom McCanna
