A Note from the Chief of Staff, Rob Johnson
I thought I would add a little back ground to this.
The reason there is a 10 day cutoff is more than just an issue of having food for you. That is the time frame we have put in place to allow us to decide if we have enough members to fulfill our obligations to an event.
The cut off for it being an official Clann event is 6 people This minimum is not arbitrary but rather based on the needs of a typical day in camp. We need to be able to do demos, cook food, haul water, and keep a fire going. Anything less than 6 members trying to do that and life just becomes miserable. If we don't have 6 by ten days out then the event is not sponsored by Clann. This doesn't mean the Clann will not support members that are committed to going but it does mean that Clann will not pay for food or reimburse gas costs.
As you can see with only ten days we would be hard pressed to work out the logistics of this so lets avoid this and get those notices in to Julie.
I want to personally state that this is not to say that Staff doesn't understand that it is hard to commit to events when you don't know your work schedule. What we are asking is that when you know for sure what your will be let Julie know right away. If you don't know or their may be complications and the dead line is approaching let Julie know this. We can be a vary flexible group and do a lot with a small amount of people. We can do that much better if we know what it is we have to work with.
Because this event involves PLANNING and SHOPPING, we must ask members to SIGN UP! Please make your intentions known NOT LATER THAN JULY 12th! Camp Drill is at noon on Saturday, July 22, and we need to figure number of dishes and quantities of food.
Please reply to me or to julieyoder@juno.com.
Your staff thanks you.
Mia
Colonel Gaffneyis Regiment has two events on the weekend of July 15 this year. The Minnesota Scottish Fair and Tactical are both on the same day. While nobody can be in two places at once, Clann will do its best to support both events.
Because we need to allocate resources appropriately, please let Julie (julieyoder@juno.com) know at once if you are planning to attend either event, so we can parcel out equipment appropriately.
Unfortunately, the trailer cannot be in two places at once, either, and the Trailer is required for the Scottish Fair. Any and all equipment that is destined for Tactical must be hauled by attendees.
Again, we need to plan ahead to make this work. Please call (or preferably email) Julie Yoder at 651-698-8375 or julieyoder@juno.com.
Your Staff thanks you.
/Setup /will be Thursday evening after work; we want to get Corporate set up ahead of time, and people are welcome to set up their personal canvas if they are planning on camping Friday night.or Saturday night.
/Cast call/ will be at 8:30 Saturday morning; we open at 9:00. /Please be present for cast call!/ A lot of us are coming, and we all want to get to know each other and be clear on our roles.
Your staff thanks you!

Minutes of Clann Tartan Board Meeting on April 18, 2006 In attendance: (Board) Cate Hesser, Mary McKinley, Sean McCanna, Glenn McDavid, Herb Lindorff, Diana Steben, Bruce Yoder (Everybody!) Staff: Julie Yoder, Maeve Kane ----------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of the March Meeting were accepted as corrected. REPORTS ======= VICE-PRESIDENT - New members: Heidi and Scott Viar, Margaret Kirkpatrick. VP is working with Mia McDavid (staff) on welcoming the new members. TREASURER -- Our payment from Ramble missed the fiscal year cutoff (3/31) but was carried over to the new year. Our checking account balance has been over $7000 for the last year. Accordingly, we bought a $5000 one year CD to earn interest on some of our funds, If we do have to make an early withdrawal, the penalty would decrease the interest by one half. Bruce is preparing an article on mileage and gas reimbursement, which will appear in the May Newsletter SECRETARY -- Despite the move to an on-line newsletter, we still have to mail out nearly 30 hard copies. This is a noticeable burden on the Secretary. We have some prospect (Doug Yoder) of getting help on the web site. QUARTERMASTER -- The trailer is being repaired. It will be ready by Saturday, April 22, to be loaded for Charles City. Basically it is in good shape. COMPANY REP, CAMP REP -- Generally everybody is fine. One member wore an out-of-period garment at a recent event. The Camp Rep and the Quartermaster will deal with it. DANCE GUILD -- Doing well. Lots of new members, but we need more men. DANCE MUSIC GUILD -- Looking for vocalists. We have lyrics for many of our tunes. SWORD GUILD, FIBER GUILD, HISTORIC SITE, MUSIC GUILD -- No reports UPCOMING EVENTS =============== Charles City (April 28-30) Muster (May 12-14) Twig (June 9-11) Dun Gowan Tactical, Minnesota Scottish Fair & Highland Games (both on the weekend of July 15) Deer River (Aug. 4-6) Des Moines Ren Faire (Sept. 8-10) The usual October events. Our calendar is about the same as in 2005, but we have added Des Moines. Members must be current in their dues to attend an event, including Charles City. Maeve has written an article on rules for members at events. This has been sent to all members on the e-mail list and will also be in the May Newsletter. NEW BUSINESS ============ Muster issues: The quizzes for the 2nd and 3rd levels need to be revised. The president directed the muster committee to revise them ASAP, preferably before the next muster. The muster committee consists of the VP, Quartermaster, and Chief of Staff. It's also good to include the Head Campfollower and Captain. Maeve has also volunteered for this committee. 4th level muster: Marty's 4th level needs to be scheduled, and the appropriate Board/Committee formed. There is some concern that the current stated requirements for 4th level are too vague. It might be good to have a syllabus to spell these out. At the same time we need to have some flexibility to ensure that we are not revising the requirements too often as circumstances change. Night at the Pub: Friday, April 21. Lake Street Garage, Minneapolis. Next Meeting: Noon on Saturday, May 6, at Corcoran (combined Board and Members Meeting). Meeting adjourned.

Sword Guild:
The Sword Guild is currently meeting at the Byers' house at 2821 Churchill Ave in Roseville. We have ample room to work about and not worry about getting too close to one another.
We meet at 7:00, on the 3rd Thursday of the month (in July, it will be on the 20th). If interested, contact Marty Byers, 651-483-1173 / 651-261-5815 / twolodge@yahoo.com. I would be happy to bring new people into the Guild and hope that our numbers will soon swell.
P.S. Don't worry if you do not have a sword yet, some are available for classes.

Event Schedule for the 2006 Season:
Hello all,
The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that Maeve has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about wether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let Julie know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me regarding this matter
Thanks,
Rob Johnson.

Mark your calendars! Saturday, July 15, Clann will be participating in the Minnesota Scottish Fair and Highland Games. Here's the website: http://mnscottishfair.org.
We can camp Friday and Saturday nights, although the fair is at the Dakota County fairgrounds in Farmington, only about a half-hour drive from the center of the cities, so it's also very easy to day-trip. There are flush toilets and showers on the grounds and lots of free parking. This was a really great event last year, and this year promises to be even better!
R.s.v.p. as soon as possible to julieyoder@juno.com or call 651-698-8375. Remember, if you don't R.s.v.p., you don't eat!
If you would like to reserve a tent, email the quartermaster at deeptinker@yahoo.com.
If you would like more information about any event, call Julie at 651-698-8375 and I'll try to get you answers.
