The current Secretary on the Board of Directors, Heidi Johnson, has decided to resign. We are seeking a volunteer to finish out her term, which ends in February 2011. Duties would include attending Board meetings on the 2nd Tuesday of each month, taking minutes, emailing them to the Board and making corrections, and sending the approved minutes to the newsletter for publication. The Secretary also maintains the roster, and oversees the Communications committee, which puts out the newsletter and oversees the web site. Help is available for everything but attending Board meetings and taking minutes. If anyone is interested in helping our organization, please email the President at julieyoder at juno dot com. Thanks!
Joe A, Karen B, Betsy B, Anthea C, John D, Eric & Hellen, Cate H, Maeve K, Margaret K, Elizabeth LeClair, Herb L, Mike M, Glenn & Mia, Mary M, Richard M, Dave O, Tori O, Penndra M, Ann P, Cindy S, Sarah S, Mark S, Laura S, Perry V, Bruce & Julie
If you need to renew, Please get a check or cash to me at an event, dance or music guild meeting or drill. Or you can mail a check to Bruce Yoder, 4736 12th Ave S, Minneapolis MN 55407. Make check payable to Clann Tartan.
Bruce Yoder
Treasurer
This is the sad situation vis-a-vis Twig. We all love this event and have been looking forward to going. Carlos and Caesar have been looking forward to us going. TWIG has been looking forward to having us.
They can't afford us. Hell, they won't even have water.
Members may go and use the organization's gear but will have to pay for their own food, haulage, etc. They should also bring five gallons of water apiece because there is no water piped on site.
I am really sorry I can't bring better news on this.
Best,
Mia
I look forward to working with you!
Mary McKinley
Margaret Kirkpatrick has the books and articles on Scottish history and folklore, military and food. Cindy Schaufenbeul will be housing the music books; Ellis O'Rourke now hosts the textiles & crafts books, along with the Fiber Guild meetings; and clothing and dance will be with Julie Yoder.
Please contact any of the above directly to borrow materials from our library. Sarah Shaftman has produced a catalogue in Excel 2007. It's complete as to the books & pamphlets, articles & photocopies, and videotapes we have in hand. She can provide it in an alternate format as needed.
We are putting together such a list of in-house talent. If you wish take advantage of this free advertising, please let David know that you want to be on the list, along with what you make or can help others make.
Thanks.

Board Minutes
Board meeting, March 16, 2010
Yoder's house, 4736 12th Ave S, Minneapolis
Board members attending: Bruce Yoder, David Vavreck, Julie Yoder, Heidi Johnson, Karen Bastien, Laura Swenson
Other members in attendance: Mia McDavid, Brittany Johnson, Margaret Kirkpatrick
I. The January minutes, which had been sent to the board e-mail list, were discussed, and approved as corrected.
II. Officer Reports
The Vice-President and the recruitment committee will be setting up a phone meeting.
The Treasurer presented the 11 month fiscal year report. The past month showed a surplus. The treasurer did an analysis of the surplus/deficit over the past five years and noted that the five year surplus was a net of $10. The current cash assets are $7560.86.
The Secretary reports that help is needed to complete the minutes for the February members meeting. She has the minutes for the meeting beginning about thirty minutes into the meeting. Bruce offered to help.
The Quartermaster reports that a car was parked in front of the garage door when he picked up the pikes last Friday. The landlord didn't know who owned the car. The car was still there at the end of the weekend. The quartermaster suggested getting rid of trooper #5, which is in poor condition. The troopers will be dropped off tomorrow for leather grommet installation.
The Camp Rep had a concern regarding internet communications. Laura will write an article for submission to the newsletter and forward it to the board e-mail list for comments.
The Company Rep has no report.
III. Guild Reports
Music – the recorder guild is meeting twice a month at this point.
Dance – donations to defray the cost of the Tuesday night site have been falling behind.
Fiber - Mia will be contacting Katherine regarding waulking music.
Sword - Mia donated four wooden practice swords. David has contacted Van Cleve park regarding holding practice there.
Historic Site – David suggests scheduling work weekends for the following: April 4th, with a snow date of the last weekend in April, May 15-16th, as well as some possible dates in July.
Garden – Margaret and Laurie Ford got together and looked at seed catalogs. Seed exchanges are being discussed on the e-mail list.
IV. Events
A. Drill
This upcoming company drill will be on bodices. David will give a talk on the fauna of Scotland.
B. MSFHG
Mia has not heard any further details. She will contact Liz shortly regarding details.
C. Woodville
Same arrangements as last year. Laura will look into publicity.
D. Twig
No news yet. Mia will follow up.
E. Fort William
Mia and Margaret will be asking for firm commitments.
F. Tactical
Several options for communal food have been discussed. We could ask Don to prepare everyone's food. Laura will talk to Don about possible costs and arrangements. Mia and Margaret will be getting a rough head count.
G. Johndezvous
Most likely Memorial Day weekend.
H. Trek
Most likely in June.
I. Invitation for “School of the Musketeer”
This event would offer large scale field maneuvers, but is only three weeks away. If this occurs near us next year, it would be worth considering.
V. Old Business
A. Florida trip
In the end, nobody could go.
VI. New business
A. Library
Sarah has cataloged and organized the library. She has suggested that the various guild heads take separate boxes. Although the board would generally prefer to see the library stay together, this seems the best option for now. The library committee will work out further details.
B. Outside links on web page
After discussion, we will turn down this particular request.
C. Calendar
John Debnam has created a Google calendar for Clann and published details on the members' e-mail list.
D. David ran into Kevin Myers while out and about and Kevin says hi.

We have a yahoo groups email list for the guild that we use for reminders about the meetings and topical discussions. If you want to be on the email list, request an invitation to join from Bruce at bruceyoder at juno dot com.
Please contact your music chair, me, to express your interest, and to let me know what evenings would work best for you. And if you can host.
I am thinking maybe twice a month, but you can vote on that, too.
I will set it up for the day(s) with the most votes.
And if you have a better name for it than Gaffneyis Glee Club, I am all ears. It does have a nice ring to it, though.

We have seven members already, and are working on a bit more refined style of music than we do in our regular music meetings.

Netiquette is very important since most of our Clann communication is done via email. When we use the internet to facilitate our communication, we don't have tools like facial expression, gestures, or tone of voice to compliment our written words. Sometimes our messages are misinterpreted. I want to remind everyone that the message sent is received by another person, not a machine, and they might not completely understand the sender's true intent. Therefore, be vigilant, and clear in your communications. Be aware that the person on the receiving end is susceptible to inferences not intended. Don't let the impersonality of the email tool make your words into something less personal that could be misconstrued.
Let us ask ourselves, "Would I say this to the person's face?". If our answer is no, or is emotionally charged, we should walk away for awhile and think of another way to rewrite the message. This way, we can all be sure that what we just put into writing is something we can be comfortable saying in person.
I have been elected by the Clann Tartan membership to resolve any complaints that arise, but here is an area where we can all prevent future misunderstandings. If you have concerns or become aware of unsettled issues, please contact me via email at mommyco at baldwin-telecom dot net, or give me a call at 651-204-1778, or on my cell at 715-497-9792. Thanks:)
Laura

The following is a list of the dates of the events that are currently on the schedule for this year. The staff has met and decided to keep this running list of events in the newsletter to give you a chance to get an idea of what is going on this season as well as keep you updated to changes in the schedule.
The column titled status will include the following information.
Tentative- this means that an event organizer or Clann has expressed a strong enough interest in doing this event that it warrants reserving space on the calendar for the event.
Pending- this is the next stage of an event. This means that the Contracts Administrator has entered serious discussion about Clann doing an event but we are still not committed to the event. You should however if possible think about whether or not you may be able to attend this event.
Scheduled- this level means that the board and staff have approve the event and we are committed to providing manpower to making the event happen. When an event is assigned this level please let the HCF know as soon as possible if you can or can not attend this event.
Canceled- This means that for various reasons an scheduled event has been removed from the current season. We will try and give as much notice as we can prior to canceling an event.
If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact staff regarding this matter
Thanks,
Your Staff
